International Literacy Day 2021

"Learning gives creativity, creativity leads to thinking, thinking provides knowledge, knowledge makes you great." - A.P.J. Abdul Kalam

8th of September was proclaimed International Literacy Day by UNESCO in 1966 to remind the international community of the importance of literacy for individuals, communities and societies, and the need for intensified efforts towards more literate societies.

Did we know that 773 million adults and young people lack basic literacy skills; 617 million children and adolescents are not achieving minimum proficiency levels in reading and mathematics; To do our bit in this regard an initiative was taken by the students of MPSFG of class VI,VII and VIII to spread awareness about literacy and promote quality education by distributing books in the slums. A spelling competition was organised for KG and the Primary Section to enhance their learning skills.

Students were encouraged to opine about the significance of the day. Students of senior wing discussed their aspirations and future goals with their teachers. Teachers briefed the students about how literacy is the prime requisite for learning and plays a vital role in restraining population growth, curbing poverty, establishing gender impartiality and a bright promise for growth.

The pandemic, however, was a reminder of the critical importance of literacy. Beyond its intrinsic importance as part of the right to education, literacy empowers individuals and improves their lives by expanding their capabilities to choose a kind of life they can value. It is also a driver for sustainable development.
